Today, I helped ran the Filipino Grapplethon event at the Westside Training Center aka Cobrinha Westside gym to help raise funds for the victims of Typhoon Haiyan (Yolanda). Today's donations will contribute to the relief effort and Cedars Sinai Medical Center (the company that I work for) will match the individual donations up to a maximum of $25,000, as part of a collective Cedars-Sinai donation.

The event started at 11:00AM and ended after 3PM. We had a range of all kinds of grapplers from a Judo Green Belt to a Judo Black Belt and from a BJJ White Belt to a BJJ Black Belt. There were Gi and NoGi players from BJJ gyms like 10th Planet, Art of Jiu Jitsu, Paragon, Cobrinha Westside, and Gracie Barra. Most of the people that rolled were BJJ Blue and Purple Belts. There were a lot of good rolls with a Judo Black Belt that rolled for most of the 3 hours, which was very impressive. Rolls were 5 minute rounds with 1 minute rest.

We were serving Filipino Food today as well. Lechon, Lumpia, Filipino BBQ Kabobs, and Rice was the items on the menu today. We purchased Lechon from  Papa J's Lechon. It was super yummy delicious. Skin was crispy and the meat was juicy. My mom made the lumpia and rice, and spent all morning making them. My friend Abigail, a purple belt Judo player, brought in the Filipino BBQ Kabobs. Thank you to Papa J's Lechon, C&M Cafe, Fernando, Abigail, Nigel, and my Mom for your help in bringing in food, supplies, and helping out serving this event.

In total, we raised $965. Everyone had a great time either rolling, hanging out, and eating some great food. I think the best part of the experience was that I got to meet a lot of different type of grapplers, even though I didn't get a chance to roll and raise money for a great cause. Being Filipino, it meant a lot to me to raise this event.

I would also like to thank the Westside Training Center aka Cobrinha Westside for asking me and letting me run this event at their gym. Once again, thank you to C&M Cafe, Fernando, Abigail, Nigel, and my Mom for all your help. You guys did a great job. Thank you to everyone that came to the event to show your support. Mabuhay, Namaste, Dattebayo!!! Maraming ng Salamat!!!
