My 2nd Half Goals for 2013, my goal is to compete and win at the:
NABJJ North American BJJ Tournament - August 10th and 11th
USBJJF/IBJJF American National Jiu-Jitsu Championships - September 7th and 8th
IBJJF Master and Seniors World Jiu-Jitsu Championship - October 5th and 6th
IBJJF World Jiu-Jitsu No-Gi Championship - November 2nd and 3rd
If there's an absolute/open division at any of these tournaments, then I will compete in those as well. At this point, my money is on quality, since I need to rest up more in between competitions to save my ribs. I know that I can win any competition as long as I'm healthy, so I'm focusing on that than competing as often as I like. The first two tournaments are mainly as tune ups for both Masters Worlds and No-Gi Worlds.
The main reason why I am putting a lot of energy into competing is because I will be having my first child this year. I want to focus on taking care of my baby and family. Also, I will be in graduate school, so training will be reduced heavily. Luckily, I have a training dummy at home, so I won't be losing too much time on training.
For my guard, I will be working on my open and butterfly guard to complement my half guard and deep half guard game. For passing the guard, I will be working on passing the spider guard and deep half guard. For submissions, I will be working on chokes and kimuras. For takedowns, I will be working on my Judo.
For my strength and conditioning, I will be working on my grip, explosive power, static strength, core strength, and flexibility. Since at Worlds, I was one of the smallest and lightest guys, I need to work on these areas, in order to functionally use the moves that I use the most on taller and bigger opponents.
My motto for this tournament training this year is "Compete like as if it is my last tournament of my life."
