My second workout was at the Westside Training Center. I took the advance BJJ class. For the warm up, we jogged around, skipped around, did a couple Judo movements, and a double leg set up. After that, we worked on passing the half guard with switching the hips to head and arm side control. The next transition that we worked on was half guard pass that starts with head control to baseball choke set up to cross collar choke to failed cross collar choke to brabo choke. I got to work on a lot of reps for each transition.
After that, I did a live drill from my half guard for 1 round. I swept and did several reversals on most of my opponents. Some where technical and some where with strength and technique was involved. The next round, I got to work on my passing from half guard. Once again, I was able to pass at will with some with technique, and some with strength and technique. Then, I got to roll with the instructor. I got to roll around a lot and work on my passing and on my half guard and deep half guard. I got swept and passed on each time. I learned a lot from the roll and will adjust for next time.
After class, I got to discuss with the instructor about my game. The feedback was good and I felt that I'm heading on the right direction and got a good read on what I need to work on and what habits that I need to unlearn and grow from.
I came out healthy today and training was great. I'm getting stronger as well. From this point on, I'm adding more speed work into my routine, since I'm getting close to competition and the strength and power phase will phase out for now. Thanks to all the training partners and Kris Novell for helping me out today in my training and quest to become a World Champion this year. Even though, I'm currently training for the Legend BJJ Tournament, I'm using it as a tune up before Worlds. I need to make sure that my game is where it needs to be before Worlds.
