Today, I worked out twice. My first workout was before class. I worked out for 30 minutes. It was pretty intense. My grip was fried from the Bulgarian Bag and I assume that it was going to be light, but 50lbs is not exactly a cake in the park with these explosive exercises.
Workout: Band Pull Aparts- 3 sets- 15 reps 50lb Bulgarian Bag Rotations- 3 sets- 10 reps for each side 50lb Bulgarian Bag Arm Throw- 3 sets- 5 reps for each side 50lb Blugarian Bag Front Squat Jumps- 3 sets- 10 reps 25lb Medicine Ball Toss + 5 yard Sprint- 5 sets- 5 reps 25lb Medicine Ball Overhead Toss + 5 yard Sprint- 3 sets- 5 reps Pull Ups - 2 sets- 6 reps Chin Ups- 2 sets- 6 reps My second workout was at the Westside Training Center. I took both the Beginner and Advance BJJ class. For the beginner class, they over ippon seonage. I was watching and helping out if I could. I did do the warm ups, which consisted of jogging, lateral movements, a lot of ab work, and BJJ movements. For the ground work, the instructor went over an arm bar set up from the back within the guard position. For the advance BJJ class, we went over several omoplata finishes, set ups, and transitions from there to taking the back. We did a lot of reps there. On one of the finishes, my right calf started cramping, so I stopped from there. I didn't roll, so I was working on the dummy. For 20 minutes, I did arm bar transitions from knee on belly, side control, mount, and from the back. I worked on the RNC and Zekiel transitions from the back. A lot of reps were down on working on my mouse trap, setting up, and finishing with the Americana, Arm Bar, and Kimura. After that, I stretched out and did some foam rolling. I had a good day of training. I came out healthy, which was my main goal for today. The Kimura is my go to move. I felt that this video was well done on explaining the Kimura set ups and finishes from multiple entries and positions. The proof of concept was definitely there. The perspective from a Black Belt like Roy Dean goes to show the level of detail and creativity on working just one move. As I grow my game, I hope to incorporate all the types of Kimuras within my arsenal and to refine my technique to have a quicker, stronger, and more technical finish.
