Timothy Davis is raising money to help his dearest friend Shirin Tinati, who is currently battling breast cancer. She's an amazing artist, and you can check out her work at shirintinati.com

Hollywood Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is going to hold an open training session we're calling a "Cancer Roll." It's next week on September 7th. Check out all the details here: http://www.gofundme.com/3xjpm4

He is going to spar non-stop with some elite level brazilian jiu jitsu fighters, and he's asking people to sponsor his fight, so that he can help support Shirin in HER fight. If she can go through chemotherapy for a few months, he can get tapped out for a few hours.

All of the money raised will go to help Shirin with her medical costs and recovery. Please watch the video that he posted explaining in further detail.

Everyone interested in supporting the cause can donate on the fundraiser site and pre-order a Choke Out Cancer 2013 t-shirt for $20. Leave a comment with your name, size (S-XXL) and quantity to have a shirt waiting for you at the event!

8/30/13 Legend BJJ Tournament Training - Day 17

Today, I worked out twice. My first workout was at the Muay Thai School USA in North Hollywood. I love going to this gym, because they have some pole bags and 3 huge heavy bags. I love punching and kicking these bags with full force. These bags do not budge that much, so I can let out some steam.

Workout:

Heavy Bag Work for 30 minutes- Combinations of Punches, Kicks, Elbows, and Knees
Push Press- 135lbs, 155lbs, and 225lbs- 5 reps, 245lbs, 3 sets- 275lbs- 1 rep
Thick Rope Cable Rows- 100lbs and 180lbs- 10 reps, and 2 sets- 200lbs and 220lbs-  8 reps
Thick Rope Bodyweight Hangs- 2 sets- 25 seconds
Plyometric Squat Jumps with Dumbbells- 20lbs, 30lbs, 40lbs, and 50lbs- 5 reps
Wood Chops on Cables with Bar Attachment- 3 sets- 32.5lbs- 10 reps for each side

My second workout was at the Force Balance BJJ/ Paragon Burbank gym. At this point I was spent from the previous workout. The guest instructor tonight was Alfred from Paragon Ventura. I did the warm ups which consisted of jogging, lateral movement, forward roll, backward roll, alligator walks, cartwheels, squats, crunches, and push ups.

Today's lesson was on taking the back. The first transition was stuffing a double leg shot to crossface to getting to the back, grab the lapel, pull up the opponent, get the hooks in, get to the choking side, get back mount, and finish with either a lapel choke with a half nelson, RNC with the lapel, and short choke. The other transition was a variation to this by that instead of pulling up the opponent, you be on the their side with your near side knee next to the opponent's knee and the far side leg would post, you would then switch out the legs and pull your opponent towards you to get the back mount, we can then have the option to finish or transition to finish with the arm bar.

I got a lot of reps in tonight and I will add this to my game. I have a better understanding on controlling the opponent with the lapel to take their back. Now, I have a couple of ways to do so. I ended up leaving after the last lesson, since I have other obligations to attend to tonight(wife

Tonight, I was suppose to do Judo, but I was still waiting for my wife. She didn't come home on time, so I went to train near the house. I was at the Tapout Training Center. I had an incident before going to the gym, in which a lady jumped into my car and I had to have her leave. It was crazy, but first, I hit the weights, then I did the 10th Planet Jiu Jitsu Advance class with Eddie Bravo. If it weren't for the incident, I would of done more during my strength training session.

Workout:

Squats- Went up to 590lbs for 3 reps- Belt and Knee Sleeves
Deadlifts- Went up to 585lbs for 1 rep- Belt and Straps
Pull Ups- 3 sets- 10 reps

For Eddie's class, I did the warm ups, which consisted of shrimps. Then, the moves that were worked on was about butterfly sweeps for the bottom guy and the top guy after being swept would recover to butterfly guard and transition to full guard. After that, we would do the same transition but fail on the sweep and would rotate the sweep to the other side. The top guy that is being swept would do a hail mary and transition to a leg lock. Next, Eddie was going over a set up for the RNC by trapping both arms of the opponent and then finish. Finally, we went a Jean Jacque Butterfly sweep, then the top opponent would shrimp out after being sweep and recover.

I didn't get a chance to roll. In fact, I'm still tired right now to write. I had to leave, since it was getting late. I did get reps in on everything. I'm glad that I came to class, since I need to work on my butterfly set ups and sweeps.
