The Sink or Swim method in my opinion is one of the best teaching methods. Sometimes in order to get out of your comfort zone, you'll have to just dive into it. Through Jiu Jitsu, I have a lot of training partners that say that they need to train more or work on more of their game before getting into a tournament. My personal advice to all of them is to simply just sign up and compete at any of these BJJ tournaments. How do you know if you are ready for anything in life, if you never try? Man, I've gone to a tournament at a week's notice, and I got 2nd place. Sometimes, this is called the F*ck It Method. Sometimes, you just have to say "F*ck it". When you have this mentally, you can do things without hesitation. With this said, you put yourself in a position that you didn't have before to succeed. Even if you don't, you can always learn from it, which is part of learning on how to succeed.
