Today, I got to free roll for 5 rounds at the John Machado gym in Torrance. I was there visiting my friend Zechs Taduran. He's an assistant instructor at that academy. I rolled with 2 purple belts and 1 blue belt. I was working on mostly escapes and variations of half guard play. I did some foam rolling, core work, and mobility work before, between, and after rolling. After that, I got to hang out with my friend for a bit.
Then, I stopped by to visit John Ouano at the Tsunami BJJ gym in Torrance. Even though, I didn't get to roll. I did learn a couple of moves from him today. He was helping out a a purple belt on escaping from an opponent's reverse kesa-gatame position and on to prevent the escape as well. He showed the escapes by controlling the far leg and one from the near leg. This was really good to know, since a lot of people get into this position when they roll with me. I'll give the moves a shot the next time that I get put into this position.
As far as competition wise, I'm ready and healthy. I've hadn't been this healthy, since Pan-Ams. The weird thing about this tournament this weekend is that my first opponent is the same opponent that I went against from the first tournament this year. It's weird that I'll be ending the year going against the same guy from the beginning of the year. If you want to see what it takes to beat a 400lb man, then you'll get a chance to see it this weekend. It's not an easy task, but I believe that I have the strength and technique to show that I can beat him.
I would like to thank my instructors, training partners, family, friends, sponsors, and affiliates for all your help and support in my training for this weekend. My goal this weekend is 4 Gold Medals. Time to let the beast out and play. Mabuhay, Namaste, Dattebayo!!!
