1/29/14 IBJJF Pan Jiu-Jitsu Tournament Training- Day 3

Tonight, I was training at the Westside Training Center/ Cobrinha Westside in Culver City. I took the advance BJJ class. For the warm up, we did double leg shots for 2 rounds and spider guard to DLR transitions for 2 more rounds. After that, Kris Novell, tonight's instructor, went over a DLR guard break, a spider guard to DLR transition to X-Guard, and an X-Guard break to side control transition for 2 rounds of each sequence.

Then, we did a live drill for several rounds on Spider Guard. I got to work on my spider guard and my spider guard breaks/passes within those rounds. Next, I got to roll for 3 rounds of 6 minutes. I was moving okay, but I'm still missing a step here and there, while my calve is still bothering me. Overall, I did okay and I stayed healthy.

TRX Horizontal Rows (Supinated Grip)- 3 sets- 15 reps- 30 seconds rest between each set
Battle Ropes Power Slams- 4 sets- 20 reps- 30 seconds rest between each set

My second workout was at the Tsunami BJJ gym in Torrance. I got to work with both Professor Ouano and Professor Hauck. Tonight's lesson was on full guard breaks to transition to double under pass to side control, then there was a transition to when the double under pass is compromised and the opponent goes to turtle, and we transition to set up a clock choke. Finally, we worked on another pass to side control using a modified knee slice to the same side of the knee.

I got a lot of reps in and I asked a lot of questions about certain situations and modifications for myself. I stayed healthy and I'm already prepping for Pans this early. I'm trying to get as many reps in as I possibly can right now. Also, I'm trying to work on more conditioning at the end of my work outs this early, so I can be more aggressive during tournament time.

My second workout was at the Force Balance BJJ/ Paragon Burbank gym. Tonight's instructor was Brian Aguirre from Check Mat. Tonight's training was on the DLR\Berimbolo set up\sweep to back take transition. I was able to rep on from the open guard to DLR to sweep to berimbolo. I stopped after that, since my calves were cramping again. They've been cramping since Wednesday, so I started to do some foam rolling and static stretching after that. I ended my day from there to get ready for tomorrow.

I would like to say Good Luck to all of my friends and family this weekend. Let's get that Gold!!! Mabuhay, Namaste, Dattebayo!!!

We went from a Harai Goshi to a One Step Uchi Mata to a Sacrafice Throw off of an opponent's single leg attempt. After that, for the Jiu Jitsu aspect, side control concepts were introduced, then a couple of escapes to a collar choke and an armbar from an opponent's side control were given.

I didn't roll after class, since it was getting late and past 2 hours. I learned a lot and had a lot of fun. Thank you to Sensei Gary and Professor Pedro for their help and lessons at the seminar.

My second workout was at the Tsunami BJJ gym in Torrance. I did a lot of reps on the first lesson, which was a full guard transition to spider guard to leg grab when the opponent stands up to over the shoulder sweep to side control. After that, I was just watching on the side, since my calves were cramping from the Yoga class. The other transitions were similar set up to the same sweep, but when the opponent is on his knees and a bicep slicer finish was shown as well.
