After that, I got to roll for 4 rounds. 3 of them were with white belts and one was with the instructor. Mainly, I played it safe and did more of a flow roll. 2 of the rolls, I helped out my training partners with their game and base. I came out healthy and it was great training session. I normally don’t do this type of single leg entry, but I found it to be super effective, especially with my strength.
Today, I was training at the Westside Training Center aka Cobrinha Westside. I got to class late and missed the warm ups, but I did drill a lot today. I got to work on an entry and 3 finishes for the single leg takedown. The three variations were an inside leg sweep, outside leg trip, and a finish while holding on to the opponent’s lapel. We did a lot of reps. All of the reps that I did were on my strong side.

Comment: All in all. I'm happy with the progress of my shoulder rehabilitation and recovery. I was able to do a lot of stuff today. I do still have some pain, but it is going away and my shoulder is significantly more stable now. Allso, I received my 3rd stripe on my blue belt from Steve Cardenas. I know that this is a late write up, but I've had so much distractions and issues leading up to this tournament. Unfortunately, this was the worst performance in a while, since I had a bad shoulder injury leading to this event. I couldn't roll or do most of the drills during training, so I rested up the final week before and went up as is to the competition.
In my first and only match, I lost by points, since my opponent scored based on a takedown and guard pass. I was defending the whole time and couldn't get anything going. It was hard for me to be aggressive, since I was protecting my shoulder. At least I came out healthy. Out of 5 opponents, one was disqualified, so by default I got bronze at Worlds. This was my first medal at the IBJJF tournaments. Next up is SIJJF Worlds. I would like to thank my family, friends, instructors, training partners, sponsors, and affiliates for all your help and support leading up to this competing. Hopefully, I will be a 100% at the next competition. Mabuhay, Namaste, Dattebayo!!! |
