Today's lunch Jiu Jitsu training was at the Rodrigo Freitas BJJ gym in Hawthorne, CA. Today, we worked on half guard passing and taking the back from half guard. The half guard pass that we worked on was using shoulder pressure to get to full mount. Then from the bottom part of the half guard, we worked on framing and getting the under hook to get to the back. After that, I got to do three rounds of live drills from the half guard from both the top and bottom position with one blue belt and two purple belts.
I was able to get reversals from half guard and even transition to deep half guard to get some sweeps from there. From the top position, I was able to get some passes and submissions within the half guard position. Overall, training went well and I came out healthy. Also, I was able to get some stretching in during each lesson being taught and I was able to get some stretching in during breaks at work.
My sciatica is definitely gone and I'm feeling confident on moving more with more speed on the mat. I got to work positioning myself with more discipline and better purpose with each moves. For example, when my training partner went from half guard to Z guard, I stayed within my position to see on how my training partner would move, when I saw an opening, I was able to capture it during the fly and anticipate properly to get the pass. I was able to help out my training partner and guide him on what he did wrong on his positioning. Lesson was learned and then we moved on.
Thanks to my training partners and Professor Ian for today's training. I'm another step closer to getting better and reaching my goals.
