Yesterday's lunch Jiu Jitsu training was at the Rodrigo Freitas BJJ gym in Hawthorne, CA. First lesson of the day was pulling guard from stand up. Then, we worked on a transition from there to an open guard sweep. After doing reps, I got to roll for 4 rounds of live drilling from both the open and close guard for both the offensive side and defensive side.
I was able to get some some sweeps, but I retracted from open guard to half guard. I was able to pass a couple of times from both the open and full guard. It was not easy and at times, I gave up some positions to get the pass like giving up a triangle or arm bar, but it all worked out on working on my escaping skills.
I'm less than 3 weeks out from the Jiu Jitsu World League tournament. I feel okay so far, but I'm having a hard time balancing both the powerlifting and Jiu Jitsu training. I felt stiff coming to class and I missed the warm ups, but I have been stretching everyday to work on my flexibility.
